It's my somber duty to report yesterday's productivity:  189 words.

So, no screwing around.  It's seven a.m.  I'm going to take the dog out to pee, get another cup of coffee and get the hell to work.  See you in a few hours.

Pretty productive day.  Wrote off and on all day, probably about four hours total.  I managed 903 words on the project that I'm tracking.  Also another 850 on another project that I'm not counting toward my daily total.  Both went pretty well.

This was definitely one of those days where you know you're a writer.

Day 48: Wrote 115 words. The past few days have not been kind to my word counts. sad

(But these emoticons really cheer me up!)

776 today.  Hard fought.  But that gives me just over 4000 for the week.

You guys are all amazing.

I've been quiet, focused on the site and then some time with my family. Spent yesterday writing and it feels like I can breathe again.

Welcome back, Brandi.

624 today.

Hey, did anyone else notice that today is day 50 of this challenge?

I am just past the 33000 mark.  660 per day.  I have managed to write every day, almost always 500 or more.  (I think I fell short 3 times)  I may finish this novel yet (I'm past the 90 K mark, and still a lot of story ahead.)   I'm also simultaneously doing a major massive rewrite on another novel, so I've been busy.   But I feel good about it.  Maybe having to report in every day (not that anyone would especially notice if I didn't) was the answer all along.  Hmm.  What does that say about me?   Maybe I like artificial deadlines.

Day 50! Great-thanks Atthys. Good to know.

Not much writing done today-about 250. My goal was 700. So that means my goal for tomorrow will be about 1000. Good night!

I have been slacking. *hangs head*

BUT, not today. 5017 for the day. I'm trying to get 20k by next Wednesday (conference starts then). Four more 5k days and I'll get a cruise with my CP, where we sit in a cabin for a week, with our laptops, and ignore each other while we write.

blerg. Lost my weekend to a crazy house guest. Managed 1K the past two days. Need to step it up since I foolishly (?) also committed to Camp Nanowrimo and their daily count is significantly higher. more blerg.

Must say, though, it's really neat to see so many folks here sticking with the plan and getting words in every day. I hope I can be one of you soon! (a daily writer, that is, not, you know, an identity thief tongueout)

Personally, Noelle, I don't know how anyone manages to write 5000 words in a day, much less four days in a row.

Honestly, if I get to 2000 words (and that's a rarity), it feels quite literally like it took me all day.

But I know I'm slow.  Yesterday:  587 on the main project.   Also about a thousand on my secondary project, which is rapidly trying to take over the spotlight.

Keep writing y'all.

Did some more rewriting last night to fix the problem I found over a month ago, so no exact word count but definitely some good progress.  As part of this work I'm having to re-read a bunch of what I've written, and you know, some of it's already quite good.  Still a few rough spots, but for a first draft I'm rather pleased.

Atthys, I did 5K a day last summer for two weeks with "Fast Draft". It's possible! It takes a good deal of prep, though. This is where outlines (in whatever format you prefer) are your friend.

Atthys, I can't see how anyone would be able to do it for more than a couple of days...total. I'm brain fried right now, and I spent a solid 5 hours at Starbucks getting today's 5k in (actually, it was 4500, but I'm rounding up. *grin*). I have the kids tomorrow, so I might get 500-1000 words at bedtime, then another 5k day on Friday when they're in summer camp.

I've been using tricks I read about on blogs where the author was consistently getting 10k days. I knew that was too ambitious, but 5k I can do. I just HAVE to know where the story is going and write out in detailed bullet points what happens in the scene. The bullets are "telling," and then I expand by adding sensory details and scene setting and "showing." Voila! 5k in a day.

Gwenyffer and Noelle.   Oh, I know it's possible.  I just don't think it's possible for me.

Nor am I sure it's something I'd really want.  This summer's project has been heartening, because I'm writing consistently every day for the first time in a couple of years, but it's also convinced me that 500 to 1000 words a day is actually a pretty good pace.  I mean, if I can make a real habit of it, that's two or three full sized novels a year (not counting revisions, of course).  Gads!  That's plenty for me.  And, hopefully, that pace will allow adequate time to work through the rewrite process of other books simultaneously.

I know I'm slow, but I have no real deadlines.  Nobody waits with breath abated for the next unpublished installment.  And though I have notes and haphazard outlines for the whole book, I rarely think about much more than the scene at hand.  Fortunately, I love the rewrite process.   That's where the action is.

To each, her (or his) own.  I've logged in almost 35000 words this summer.  I can live with that.

Cheers.  Keep on writing.

(Today's progress:  513.  What can I say, tough scene.)

I haven't posted much, but been working lots.

Rewrite of EoG is complete, so I'm not going to be adding much words for a while because I'm editing now. That's fine. I blew my goal out of the water, so I'm really happy with that. Transcription sheet is on a different computer so I can relay the total count right this second, but I'm out until EoG launches at the very least.

Which isn't a bad thing. Mission accomplished. (Yesterday was a 9.6k day, and the day before was 4k or so.)

Atthys, I'm actually with you on the 5k/day not being "right" for me. I took on the challenge because the timing was perfect and I wanted to know if I could do it, if I could write 70K in two weeks if I had to, if someone were paying me to. Now I know I can. I also know it's not my preferred method and it takes its toll on me physically (hands, shoulders, neck...wrecked by the end). I have found that the best pace for me is 12-1500 per day and no writing on Fridays. All this to say I am in agreement with you that everyone needs to find their own best practice. There's no right way or wrong way, as long as you're writing.

All that said, I came in just under 300 words yesterday. Tough scene in my wip, too. Some bits are like that.

Noelle, are you going to RWA next week? Is that the conference you're talking about? Just curious.

Okay. More day job for me...

Happy writing, all!

Finally got to do some new writing last night.  I hit a point in my rewrites where it made no sense to continue because I knew the scene needed other changes, so I got started on those.  The new words from last night finally pushed me over the 53000 word barrier (not all in the summer, but at this point I'll take it .

614 words today.  Also some rewrites.  Feel like I'm almost ready to bring this scene (and chapter) and second (of three) parts in for a landing.   (As in PART II)   PART III will take some planning but I'm going to try to stay on pace.  Might just have the whole damn thing done by September 1st.   We'll see.

I forgot to check in the last two days, so...

Wednesday - 4540

Thursday - 210 (kids were with me ALL day...not a moment's peace, and by the time they went to bed, so did I)

Today - 2171 and counting.

Whew. I'm going for 2600 more today to round out my 5k, and then I'll only have 5k more to do by Wednesday before my RWA conference.

Back to it!

Hope y'all are doing well!

814 words today.  Book Two is done, putting me at about 93000 words total.

Book Three should be the shortest  by far.  Book One is about 44000.  Book Two about 49000.  I 'm hoping Book Three will be about 25000.

122000 for the whole book will hopefully whittle down to under a 100 grand in rewrite, or maybe 105.

A landmark.  Three months ago, I had more or less given up on this book.

Salut, Brandi.  For this, much thanks.

Gwenyffer, I only just saw your question about the conference. Yes, it's RWA. Are you going by any chance?

Oh, and I only got 507 done today. I can't WAIT until the kids are back in school.

Gwenyffer.  Congratulations to you as well.  Seems like you've been accomplishing a lot.

I feel like the slow and steady tortoise around here but progress is being made.  This thread is my touchstone.  I look forward every day to being able to log on and say "Yep.  Met my goal again today."

Just keep writing, just keep writing...

561 today.  Making 4433 for the week.   I confess, I have been more and more occupied with a rewrite I'm doing on another project (I plowed through over 2000 words on that one.)  But I'm determined to hold to the course.  I'd be pretty mad at myself if I just shelved it again after all this work.  Discipline is good, right?  God knows, I've exhibited little enough of it during my lifetime.

Day 56: Wrote 307 words. Quite impressed with myself because I didn't have much time to write yesterday. Slept till after noon, got up, went to Church, stayed there for a bit than came back to do a little writing before family came for a barbecue. But I just banged it out after my shower and managed that total. cool
