I have posted some chapters...and I know they are not the best, out of all the things I have written for the book, these would seem to be the closest I can come to calling done. So I will try to add......Well as the saying goes, I am my own worse critic.
Thanks again

620. Took me all day. I'm nearing the end of a chapter, and uneasy about what comes next.
But, hey, week two and I'm still on track.

757 words tonight. Really fun girlfriend scene. It's great to see progress. I've got 5,079 words in the book and another 1,100 words in my character doc.
I'm the most happy about writing for eight consecutive days. What do the experts say? That it takes two weeks to create a habit? More than halfway there.

Okay, I wish I could count the words that have been put down in reviews and other things I have explored today on this site, because that would make the count alot higher.
However, I have jotted down 2,613 on top of things on this site. I dread rereading to find out how I did tomorrow, because the count could go down to 0 really quickly.
Onwards and backwards...I mean...forward, as the saying goes?

Yesterday was only 79 words, but I had already knew it would be a lost day. Holidays are around my house because we're the ones who generally host the party. So between cleaning and entertaining, there's really no time to slip off and write.

We made it through our first week! Great job, everyone!
321 this morning. Just finished Chapter Three and it feels like a natural stopping point for now. I'm off to the office for a busy day with the Book Country elves.
Looking forward to returning this evening. I've sketched myself a fun scene next that I'm excited to write.

578 new words so far today. Edited last night's stuff fairly heavily - more net words to that chapter, but not sure how to count them. Appointment with the laptop at the coffee shoppe later today...

2,125 words today. My hero, Joseph, is in the building his captor told him about. He has just taken an elevator into hell and now he has to find his way out.

I dropped the ball on wordcount yesterday. However, I spent 4 hours editing a novel for publication and got through about 3 chapters. So I am patting myself on the back about the hard work anyway. (I rarely get that much time all at once without kids.)
Tonight, I will get back on the wordcount train and let you know how it goes.

Got my 500 words in Sunday, but no writing yesterday for two reasons: 1) family in town for the holiday. This would be a lame excuse because I had time to write, but then there's 2) I realized I was about to write a giant hole in my plot and had to revisit my plan for this scene. It gets into some pretty fundamental details of my world, so I don't want to rush it.
In short, no quantifiable word count, but I did make some legitimate progress so I'm happy.

Okay, so maybe it is me, being new and all, but trying to review a book everyday or 2 and write 500, heck even 250, words a day seems like a job. I got my 162 today and while it is still early, I have to quit. Sorry I didn't make it, but I did have the pleasure of reading someone else's work. Hopefully I can manage both, because aren't we suppose to review and help others...hence helping ourselves? (Being new I feel I must read others too or I am just taking your time without giving back)
Great job those that made it.

541 today. I feel like I know where this is going now, so I might write some more after a shower. I forgot what it's like to just write and not let my anxieties and self-confidence get in the way. Feels good.

Returned to my writing to add another 690 words to my work from this morning, bringing me up to 1,011 words for today. Tired and feeling lovely.
Atlantis, do what you can. I do my best writing when I'm also reading, but it's different for everyone. Stay with it.
Allison, isn't that the nicest feeling? When you're in control but also relaxed and it's all flowing? Happy, indeed.

Tonight I got inspired by - I kid you not - Fast and Furious 6, and knocked out 1500 words after I got home from the movie. Yeah, I don't get it either, other than the fact that the movie is better than it has any right to be.
Anyway, that puts me at 52000 words total. That means I can stop now, right?
Edit: Dang, just re-read the first post. It was 53000. Guess I have a couple more days to go.

720, or thereabouts. I don't have it in front of me at the moment. But I'm checking in because that's the program. (I am a recovering writer's block sufferer.)

Sorry I haven't checked in daily, but I was so wrapped up in finding time to write, that it slipped my mind. I've been having heinous computer problems, so finding time to write has been ever harder of late. Despite this, I've logged about 260 words each day (some days less, some days more so I'm saying average). A lot of it has been working to flesh out a new plot idea in my existing chapters, but that means I'm adding words (and cutting some). I'm excited about where this story is going for the first time in a while - largely because I think it finally makes sense- and I hope to log 500 words today!

Blasting the keyboard and kicking the keys. Joseph is in the fight of his life. Five bad guys dead, his only friend is severely wounded, and Joe has two gunshot wounds to his stomach. Can Joseph find a way to win? Can he rescue those he came to save? Or is Joseph destined to die at the hands of his mortal enemy. 2,854 words.

500 words exactly. I may scribble a few more late. It's been a hectic day. Hopefully, I'll take some useful notes tonight and prepare for a big push to finish this massive chapter tomorrow.

Mostly editing today, rather than writing. But I completed a short story and sent it off to my editor, so that's good. Grand total of new words (after many deleted) on another project: 191.
Doesn't sound like much does it? But it's all forward progress, I assure you!

Didn't think I had any gas in the tank. Wanted to be in bed at 9 after a half hour of writing. Instead, I procrastinated for an hour trying to decide on the perfect laptop sleeve. Why it needs to be perfect and I need to comparison-shop a laptop sleeve, I don't know. Then, I read articles on news sites. Then, I wrote 100 words. Then, I looked for more news sites. Then, I googled "the internet is boring me" because I was deep in the procrastination hole. Then, the battery on my computer stopped and I wanted to die. So I plugged in the machine, worried I had lost the 100 words I had written. I paced around the kitchen, made myself some hot milk, decided I wouldn't weep because I was so blasted tired and still had between 400-500 more words to write, depending on if the machine ate my work. I sat down at the machine. I discovered it hadn't eaten my work. I took a sip of milk. I calmed down. I read what I had written. It was decent enough that I decided to keep going.
Which got me to: 721 words, and I've finished Chapter 4. Hallelujah.

So I had to take the last few days off (due to work/ laziness) so I've got a bit of catching up. 1316 words seems about right. I'm now on to the next chapter, detailing the first day of university.

Well so a couple of days spent worrying and wondering about plot and storyline...something I do often and the recycle bin on my computer will attest to how often I change things...so I couldn't tell you a good word count.
I feel as though the writing is a failure, and without feedback to state otherwise, I am destroying the story. (My opinion) I did go through and edit the couple chapters I have posted, in the hopes they will eventually get read. To that end, I have deleted over 500 words, and almost an entire chapter. (Not so much progress there)
I am stuck with my main, MAIN, character on his way to the castle to meet, and save his brother. While the other characters seem easy to write about, he drives me insane and I wish he would just die sometimes. Then what would I do?
So the rest of the sub-plots have reached a zenith, without this main character (Morshire) catching up, I fear the interaction to come will sound wrong if written too soon. I did jot some lines today (about 300 words or so, and that may be optomistic) but they sound forced to me and I am not sure if I should just break for a bit and see if the story will rewrite itself in my daydreams?
If anyone wants to read something good, I recommend John Patten's 'Darker Than'. Had the pleasure of reading the chapters he posted, and while not big on Vampires, he does have the makings of a good story.
Great job for all who have stayed on track. I am still waiting for my shock collar. The longer I wait, the harder it seems to keep on track.

Atlantis - I fight with my characters too sometimes. When I experimented with plotting, one went on strike (kid you not) and refused to talk to me anymore. It was a long week. I wanted him to do one thing, and it was beautiful on paper, and he stubbornly refused. Every time I sat down to write it, the words wouldn't come until I conceded and did it his way. Looking back, I realized I made a fundamental error in my plotting and was forcing him to do something that was subtly out of his character to do.
It's hard when you hit the rough patches. Harder when you're trying to be accountable for your work. Have you plotted it? Not maybe the immediate problem, but farther out? If so, and this doesn't resolve itself after walking away and clearing your head, skip it, write the scene after like it had resolved itself, and then maybe come back to it. If you need to, go ahead and kill your character, and just hide those pages in a drawer. It's satisfying. Personally, I like eaten alive by piranha, although I suspect RJBlain would invent some really cool dragon/horse/demon cross-breed thing to feed him to. She's like that.
Yes, I'm on track, ahead actually. I'm in NaNo-mode. I also discovered if I wrote the entire 53k in the WIP I'm in, I'll be way over target on word count, so I'll finish this and go on to possibly finally finish that (stupid) NaNo MS I started in November that got out of hand.
Anyway, critiqued yesterday, 0 there. Made it up with 2642 today. Probably critique tomorrow. I don't know.

Another day of editing rather than much new writing. (But I've got a finished draft of this particular project, so it's all good.)
My progress bar says I wrote 5 words, but that's because I threw away a couple (okay 4ish) chapters that I no longer need with plot revisions. In fact, I did write about 500 new words today, too.
Still good stuff. Getting more done with this incentive than I would be otherwise--new words or editing, either way.

351 for today but it was a struggle. I really had to push, so to me the writing seems forced. I hope I'm not starting to lose momentum already this early in the game. That would be sad.

Day 11: 305
Of course, I was double checking something and realized there were more Billopp children in the house than I realized. So I may go back to add a nurse and the children. Or I may wait for the rewrites.

Well it is now the early hours of the morning in my neck of the woods. (Another up all night, I have terrible sleep habits) and I am getting here to drop a progress report.
Tori Shindler - thank you for the advice. If only I could "kill" my lead character, but I wouldn't have a story. (Besides, he is a well trained swordsman and a Runemage, so his demise would somewhat tip the scales of power.) Rather than destroy him, I got him a ticket to New Zealand for the summer. Hopefully he will have a good time and I will be able to work on the story? If not, then he may get eaten by the world serpent on his way back and I will be done.
So this seems to be the only spot where there is activity on the site, so I am going to ask a couple of questions. How do you draw attention to your work? I have read and reviewed more books than I have days on this site (which gets me nothing...okay not true, I got to encounter some talent and good stories.) Just curious, cuz I went to other discussion and they don't even get responses?
Also, I started a discussion about languages, I would really like some help there. So any takers?
Beyond that, for my update, I decided to flush out my story a bit more and add a chapter that turned into 2. So I got busy, that part of the story always flows with ease for me.
WORD COUNT IS 2466 + 2296 (got excited when I found an opportunity to engross a listener into my world. I love telling stories, it is writing them down that gets hard. It looks good, but I am too tired to reread and decide if it was a success. (Plus getting my character to the airport and past security was crazy considering he didn't want to leave his sword, and TSA guidelines are a mess.)
I will say it is a little discouraging when I feel like a blogger, rather than a writer. I don't even have a Facebook page because I hate the quick "My dog ate a fly" comments. And for me, it feels like I am talking to no one most of the time. So if anyone will drop a comment on my discussion, I'd appreaciate it. And unlike other writers here, each of my chapters is a read unto itself and deals with a character and sub-plot, so one has not to read them all. Comments will help determine wether my main character (Morshire) gets to return from his exile, I mean 'vacation' in New Zealand, or if I chum the water and sacrifice the virgin to bring the world serpent to end his young career.
Thank you all for your time, and great job to those who are staying on track.

Hang in there, Alantis. As you read others and review them, you will start to hear back. It just takes a little time. Same with discussion threads. Some take off, some don't, but the more you contribute, the more you start to hear back.

Did about 750 last night, but as I was writing my characters out of the trap they found themselves in, I realized I only knew how to get them part way out. I have an idea how to handle it, but it has some far-reaching implications for the world so it's going to require some serious thought.
Basically I'm trying to line up my excuses for when I don't do my 500 words this weekend.
(I'm averaging right around 500 words per day so far though)

I'm really pleased with the amount of work I've managed to put in since the start of this little challenge. :3
Here's my up-to-date progress, excluding today:
1 583 2 11301 3 1740 3 1688 4 1492 5 1134 6 580 7 250 8 2621 9 2343 10 1075 11 7243 I've been averaging 2.6k of writing per day. Soo proud of myself. I want to see if I can average 3,000 words by the time I'm done. That'd be a huge accomplishment for me.
Though, I expect once the project I'm working on is done, I'll slow down to a more sedate pace, but we'll see about that...

Forgot to check in last night (sorry, sponsors. Yes, I do this for me.) 560. Still on track. I did 200 this morning and will do more later but, even better, I finished the chapter. 37 pages? Yeah. Might end up breaking that one up.
Cheers, y'all.

1190. New chapter beginning. About 300 of those words are a retelling of an ancient dirty joke I found in a book on... well, ancient dirty jokes. It was research, I tell you! Probably won't survive the first edit, but, heck. For now it works.
