This seems like a very big weekend for BC writers. First Robert, now ...
Okay, I didn't announce this because I didn't want to jinx it. But about a month ago, I found out that I was one of three finalists in the Alaska RWA's "Break Up Scene" Contest. Today, I found out that I won! I was pretty surprised, because this is the first contest I've entered that focuses exclusively on romance writing. And given the competition, I certainly did not expect this AT ALL.
The prize is a critique from writer Cherry Adair. So I have a week to polish up my entry and get it to her. I hope she likes it. Very happy!

Thanks!
I treated myself to a sale item at Calypso St. Barth as my "atta girl."
Alaska RWA is going to have an amazing online workshop in early 2012, BTW. it's specifically tailored to writers penning the Alaskan romance.
I shall keep you posted!

Exactly! The contest coordinator -- a published author -- told me that Alaskan romances are very hot right now. However, people who've not lived there make a lot of silly mistakes, like writing scenes during which the couple are watching fireworks on the 4th of July! (Doh!) Or electricity and running water in the Bush or roads along the Iditarod trail.
We had a good laugh about that.
Everyone seems to like to write about summer, too, ignoring the fact that there is snow on the ground nine months out of the year. My vote still goes to Fur Rondy, because it's just insanely beautiful in late winter.'

They never mention having to put tinfoil over your windows so you can sleep during the summer.

Oh boy. Yes, I remember the tinfoil.
Tinfoil does not create a seductive atmosphere. That's for sure.

Just catching up on my posts, too.
Thanks, friends.
My name's still spelled wrong on the chapter website, LOL! I'm too nice to mention it!

HI Lisa, BIG CONGRATS on this news. Very exciting. My name was mispelled on a website once, and then later on a certificate. I didn't say anything either. -Sherry
