Writers' residencies are in the news lately because of the new Amtrak residency. It seems like everyone loves the idea of heading out into the world to find fresh inspiration for their writing.

On an island in Lake Ladoga in North Russia on a month-long retreat to a Russian monastery in the middle of winter. Got a lot of writing done!
