There's hardly a better way to get more readers on Book Country than writing an original and intriguing book description. That's why we're launching the "About the Book" Contest.
Write an awesome "About the Book" for your title on Book Country and you might win a Discover Publishing Package ($249) from us.
Here's all the info you need to enter the contest!

I will be entering this contest, if only to get my thinking focused on promotional copy. This sounds like great fun. Excellent idea!

Woo hoo! Glad you like.
You have some time to work on the copy, Mimi. The contest ends on March 18th, so you have a couple of weeks to come up with a smashing book description.
Good luck! --edited by Nevena Georgieva on 2/27/2014, 2:54 PM--

I have one question. I have a very old version of my book posted. It has changed considerably, but I'm not ready to put the new one up yet. do I need to in order to enter?

I'll also be entering this, but before I do, a question. Will you be judging the entries on what they are when they're entered or what they are at the deadline. In other words, do I enter now and spend the next fortnight whacking my entry with a hammer or is it hammer first, then enter?
In the interests of providing an open challenge and/or unintentional hilarity, here's my entry:

Good luck everyone

Mimi,
The version of the book is irrelevant! We'll judge based on what's in your "About the Book" Section on March 18th--when the contest ends. So, to enter, all you need to do is go to the contest page and enter your first & last name + the URL of your Book Details page (where we can read the About the Book). Makes sense?
Tim,
I am sorry to say that the contest is only open to the U.S. You can read that in the contest official rules here. We're working with legal on hammering out rules so we can be more inclusive in the future, but, alas, we're limited to the U.S. for now.
Best,

Yeah, I should have realised that. It's what I get for not reading the terms & conditions. Still, I'm a lot happier with my new description, so there's that.

Well shoot, you can disregard my contest entry form then. I forgot to read the small print! Silly me, I should have known since most contests are US only. Live and learn!

Help! I've rewritten my 'About the Book' for the contest, but I can't figure out how to replace the old one. Also, was there a word limit? I have 338 words.

Hi Mimi,
The character limit is 2,000 characters. That's the limit for the "About the Book" field in general, so the online editor wouldn't allow you to enter more than that.
I just private messaged you with the steps to enter a new About the Book description. Let me know if it makes sense!

My thing is up, and I'm quite pleased with it. I did find that my paragraph structure did not hold, so I've inserted dashes and spaces to indicate breaks.

Well, this was interesting, and it was fun. But, in retrospect, I'm not entirely pleased with my entry. I had mucho trouble keeping it under the word limit, and I cut corners. I have now rewritten it as I would have liked to do it, with about two hundred (okay, maybe three hundred) extra characters, a bit more explanation and a bit more transition, and I have something now that I believe I will use to promote my e-pub, when the time comes.
.
Book Country, this was an excellent idea. Got any more ideas for light-a-fire-under-their-asses competitions? I'm ready!
