Writing a one or two sentence hook can be difficult, but it is extremely important in selling your book to agents, editors, and readers. If I am unfamiliar with the author, the hook is really the main thing that determines whether I buy the book or not.
When I am trying to write a hook, I think about the people who are most likely to read the book and orient the hook to appeal to them. What techniques do you use when crafting your hook?
