So I am writing this series and I am thinking it will eventually be crossing into sort of a steampunk-ish area and then into modern times and then into sci-fi. It's starting out as fantasy. What do you

think about this? Is this a good idea?

This is entirely the wrong attitude. You, the writer, must make it into a good idea. Lead, don't follow. It will all depend how how you handle it.

I think it's a fine idea.  Why stick to something that might not be making you happy?  You might give sci-fi or steampunk a shot and decide it's not for you, or it might rock your socks off.  It's most important to enjoy the process I think.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
