Dr. Christa Sierra is the director of Project Tempo, an international, top secret time travel project. Middle-aged, divorced, and haunted by the death of her very young daughter twenty years ago, linked to what scientists called the Worldwide February Mystery Infant Deaths.

A Project Tempo explorer comes back from some time in the future, the technicians can’t say exactly when, with startling news.  One million people of Earth will be purple or green.

Project Tempo head of security General Vincent Sanderson says the security head of Moon Base 9 has already told him that they picked up extraterrestrial radio transmissions. Sanderson links the time traveler’s report with the alien radio broadcasts, and believes Earth is under eventual extraterrestrial threat. He wants to put together a strike force to send into the future. Dr. Sierra’s ideas go in a different direction, that there’s no reason to take actions exclusively based on the assumption that the aliens will be hostile.

However, Dr. Sierra receives a personal message from a former student who lives in Moon Base 9. He received telepathic communications from the aliens that tie the alien radio transmission with the time traveler’s report. We learn from the ex-student what the aliens call themselves: the Ch’athos.
