The Phoenix Diary could be a turkey but I'm hoping for an eagle. And I'm not sure how I feel right now. Happiness, relief, deep satisfaction. Whatever, the feeling is one I recommend to every writer still WiP'ing it.
And once you are ready to publish, do consider publishing via Book Country. My own experience with them is a happy one. Really. BC assigned a staff member to take me step by step through the publishing process. Vanessa Marzo did the work and I just proofed &OK'd each step.
Oh, I did submit the manuscript to traditional science fiction publisher DAW Books, Inc., a favorite of mine as a reader. They sent me back a nice form letter explaining "...it has never been more difficult to break out a new writer." I framed their letter and hung it above my desk. After all, it took me several years to earn that letter. And I do understand the market has changed. Poor DAW, I picture them moving bales of books around in an old red-brick factory, one that used to house a buggy whip manufacturer.
I have seen the future and it is here. My ebook will roll out in multiple reader formats to over a hundred countries in 45 days. Within the first week, it has already popped up on Amazon & Google Books in the U.S., Kobo in Japan, and Scribd in far-out San Francisco. It will soon be on FlipKart in India. I don't think it is even possible to print hardcopies & ship them to over a hundred countries in 45 days.
Now, if I can just figure out how to market this turk- er, eagle.

Many congratulations, GD! A fine achievement (and a good looking website at http://thephoenixdiary.com). I haven't read it yet but it's on my short list. And you aren't limited to just eagles and turkeys. There are many fine and wonderful birds in between.

Hi GD,
I will get your book on my next trip to Amazon. Spark, also, Atthys.

Never been easier to produce a book ... never been more difficult to market a book....

Congrats!Whether we like it or not, I think marketing our work is 80% of the writer's job. Thus, if you can get Penguin to advertise your book, then I would cheer, Yippee!!!
I published my novellas on Amazon kindle, as 'Erik Robin'; and I can tell you, I am a drop among an ocean of other authors.
I wish you success.

Thanks, everyone. I'm delighted to be on Atthy's & Mimi's shopping list! nate1952 and Erik-R are exactly right: Marketing is a major part of this.
That is why a handful of us have started the WritersCo-op to help one another market our books. Right now, we're Curly, Larry & Moe making a mess in the kitchen. But once we get our act together, we'll be back here looking for writers to join us.

Brilliant, GD, congratulations! On my shopping list too - and don't worry, before too long we'll be clearing up that mess in the kitchen

OK ... picked up a copy on Amazon. Do you want a review, no matter what? Or only a review if it's three stars or higher?

LOL Nate I just checked your reviews on Book Country -you don't give more than 3 stars!
Thank you for buying a copy and of course, the decision to rate & how is always the reader's choice.

Not strictly accurate. I gave The Maltese Falcon a four-star notice. They made that into a movie: which seems to suggest that my approval does carry some weight.

@nate1952
You wouldn't happen to have gotten your hands on one of those falcons, would you, Nate? I'll give you a pretty penny for it.
