I'm curious to see how many of our members are using Pinterest as a way to help build author platform. Who's using it and how are you using it? Share with the class! =)

I think Pinterest is a great and unobtrusive way to help build author platform. Many people repin book covers to generate reading lists. Then other people comment underneath. I honestly like it better than Good Reads! Less spammy...

Do you guys like Pinterest?

I'm keeping Pinterest just for me and not as part of any platform. If I did, I couldn't pin all the wonderful Doctor Who stuff I find on there. (Or Sherlock or Star Trek or Star Wars or Disney or Avengers or...)

Fun discussion! I love Pinterest! I just found the BookCountry boards

I do have a "inspiration board" for my current WIP. I also love stalking other people's writing/reading boards.

Nevena, I agree it is great for making reading lists!

I honestly just joined Pinterest. And because I heard the First Lady had joined it. Watching a news segment about it, I thought it looked interesting.

And I'm glad I joined. One of the first boards I created was a reading list. I pinned some of the books from my Goodreads account, including "The Sister Queens" by Sophie Perinot--a relatively new book. I was pleased when less than an hour later, someone repinned it. It is a great way to share things. I find there's a lot more interaction with people liking pins and repinning them. I'm now using Pinterest to drive readers to my blog as well.

I have a lot of writerly pals who are using Pinterest for idea boards - some of them are amazing. I'm on Pinterest but I use it mostly for fun stuff and therapeutic reminders.

Katherine and Mari, the "inspiration board" idea is just brilliant. I've been hanging out on Pinterest a lot lately and my two favorite types of pins are funny/geeky memes and story ideas/inspiration stuff.

As far as marketing is concerned (to go back to the author platform topic), I think every published writer should make sure their website is pinnable! Fans pin book covers all the time, which, as Alexandria noticed, is one of the easiest way to get re-pinned! What better way to drive traffic to your website....

It's been awhile. Anyone else on Pinterest? Let us know.

Nevena created Book Country's Pinterest boards: http://pinterest.com/bookcountry/. There's everything from book humor to genre boards to what we're reading to inspiration to people of Book Country  (my favorite -- hang around with us long enough and you may see yourself there.)

I heard of a writer who uses Pinterest to inspire her character's wardrobes. How do you use it?

I created a new board--one of the private ones--for my WIP "The Conference House." I pin pictures--well, paintings--of the historical people I may include in the novel. It gives me a place I can go to when I need references for descriptions.

I've changed in the way I use Pinterest from when I posted ten months ago. I put up inspiration, researching, reading, writing, editing boards. This is probably my most favorite pin:

It's mostly fun for me. I need to update my "Must Read" board. It's been a while. I do have a fun board for writing related stuff that gets a lot of repins, especially when it comes to this pin:

I think there was an extra slash. Try this one: http://pinterest.com/pin/100768110384132573/

Also, as a typewriter aficionado, swoon.

I'm on Pinterest, and I am just starting to think about how I would use it as a writer. Right now I use it to collect things I like, or to daydream about cool stuff I could buy, make, visit, or eat.

I'm looking to connect with other writers on there, so let me know if you've got a profile!
