    How do I send a private message?

    Log in to your account. Then click on the envelope icon at the top of your screen. Click on See All in order to read your messages. Click on New Message and fill in the “to," “from,” and “message” sections.

    Please note: you can send messages only to your Book Country connections, and to only one connection at a time. You cannot add attachments or pictures to the message.

    Your connections can send you private messages, as long as you allow private messaging.

    I am trying to send a private message and the button is disabled. Why?

    There are a few different reasons. Make sure you are connected to the person to whom you are trying to send a message. Also, check to see if your Private Messaging preference is set to Allow Private Messages. See how to do this in the questions below.

    It’s possible that the person could have opted to disconnect, which would disable private message. It is also possible the person you are trying to send a private message to no longer allows private messaging.

    How do I read a private message?

    To read a private message, click on the subject of the message from your inbox or sent box. If you click on the sender’s name, it will take you to their profile.

    How do I reply to a private message?

    Click on the subject of the message, then click Reply.

    How do I forward a private message?

    Click on the subject of your message, then click Forward. Please note, you can edit the subject line if you want.

    I turned off my private messages in my options. Why am I still receiving replies?

    Check your message preferences. Make sure you have logged into your account. Navigate to your dashboard and click on Edit Profile. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Private Messaging Preference. Change the Allow Private Messages from Connections to Do Not Allow Private Messages. Make sure you click Save or Save All in order to successfully update your preferences.

    Please note, this is an all or nothing function. You cannot individually select connections for whom you want to disable private messages; however, you can completely disconnect from one connection in order to disable private messaging with them. Also, if you decided to turn off private messages in the middle of a discussion with a connection, your connection can still send replies to you via the old message thread. However, they cannot begin a new message thread with you.

    How do I see my sent messages?

    Through your Inbox. Once you log in, click on the envelope icon at the top of the page and click on See All. You will be taken to your Inbox. Click on Sent to the left of the list of your messages.

    How do I delete private messages?

    Click the X next to the message. After you log in, click on the envelope icon at the top of the page and click See All. From your inbox, click on the “x” to the right of the subject line. You may only delete one message at a time. Please be aware that you will be unable to retrieve a message once it's deleted.

    How do I report a private message as inappropriate/spam?

    You can report private messages to our administrators by sending us an email through our Contact Us page. Additionally, you can opt to turn off your messages or disconnect with the user to disable private messages.

    Why do I receive an email every time I receive a private message?

    We want to make sure you never miss out on a new message. If you no longer wish to receive these emails, you can completely opt out of private messages. See the FAQ below on how to do this.

    Please note, you will no longer receive private messages from your connections if you decide to change your preferences.

    How do I stop receiving private messages?

    You can opt out of private messages or delete your connections. In order to completely opt out, make sure you have logged into your account. Navigate to your dashboard and click on Edit Profile. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Private Messaging Preference. Change the Allow Private Messages from Connections to Do Not Allow Private Messages. Make sure you click Save or Save All in order to successfully update your preferences.

    Why can’t I send a private message?

    Make sure you are connected to the person you are trying to send a message to. If you are sure you used to be connected to someone, one or both parties could have opted to disconnect, thus disabling the private message.

    Make sure your Private Messaging preference is set to Allow Private Messages. See how to do this in the questions above. Your connection could also have their private messages set to Not Allow Private Messages, which would prevent you from sending a message.

    I am trying to forward a message but the forward button is disabled. Why?

    You may not be connected to the person you are trying to forward the message to, or they may have their private messages preferences set to Not Allow Private Messages.
