I made the leap from Goosebumps to Stephen King at about 10-11 years of age. I recall holding "Carrie" in my hands at that young age. This was the movie version with a gore-splattered Sissy Spacek on the cover. Thank God my mother said yes or I would have gone back to Goosebumps. I started writing stories about this age as well and I still have many of them. They are absolutely terrible as you might expect. In fact, most of my writing up until my mid-twenties was bull-plop. I have never finished a novel-length work, but have several going that are at the 50, 000 word mark. My biggest claim to fame as far as writing goes is an Honorable Mention Horror Category in the 2011 Writer's Digest Annual Competition. That was also the first story I ever submitted. (Is that dust on my shoulder? Let me get that...) Writing is my passion, currently playing second fiddle to reality.
