Eclectic is to limited a description of my reading. I will pick up near anything from comedy to horror to sci-fi or biography. I will also drop as fast if the writer doesn't engage with me immediately. To say I have ludicrously high standards for what I read is understatement.
I have those same standards for my own writing, preferring to kill a project rather than carry on with something that is mundane or murky. I love dialogue and the interaction between characters of depth and definition. I believe people should be presented with all their warts and scars and hold nothing back in the attempt to bring imagination, style, and honesty to my work.
Let's face it, if you haven't got a healthy dose of pinache, the world will walk right over you. A little chutzpah can go a long way in carrying a story through the toughest creative obstacles.
