I founded Maryland Publishing in 2013 when I was a junior in the University of Maryland, having arrived with very little and needing desperately to fend for myself selling whatever I had. I had always found solace in creative writing, and it came to me as a shock upon waiting to transfer to Maryland that I had had so much written over the years--themes about youths who went from dark, depressing situations to suddenly finding the light in their community relations. I sought to sell such works around the campus but I was met with fear and incest. I had taken classes at Maryland where the doom and gloom of reading was the central theme. It is true that traditional print methods for book sales are dying, for they are prohibitively expensive and cannot travel far. It is my hope through Maryland Publishing that students will find the light in the darkness through stories in the form of ebooks that they can relate to relative to their time and place.
