I read in bed and don't on the whole choose literary books, rather preferring amusing detective stories or light novels. I love this kind of genre, as it feels very reader-friendly, and it's what I aspire to write myself.
I'm not a very inspired writer but aim to develop the craft of writing in a way that draws readers on.
Earlier in my career I wrote non-fiction for young readers I was on something of a crusade to allow "poorer" readers to have access to interesting topics . I also wrote some non-fiction for readers for whom English wasn't their first language. But that was all a long time ago and now I am determined to finish my current novel well enough not to be embarrassed about it.
I had a good phase of trying out creative writing online, and did some pieces I'm still proud of, although even now now none are quite finished. That's the thing about writing online - you can always change it, even years on! And the real advantage is being able to put in links and pictures.
