My first novel, Burden of the Desert, is inspired by my time as a war correspondent in Iraq. Set during the occupation of Iraq, it follows the lives of different people brought together by the violence: an ambitious young journalist, an American officer in his first command, an Iraqi insurgent looking for revenge for the death of his father, an Iraqi Muslim driver in a secret relationship with a Christian woman, and an innocent victim of the prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib.
I don't want only to write war fiction.I'm currently working on two books. One is a murder mystery set in India, where I lived for eight years. The other is set in the Channel Island of Jersey, where I grew up, and is told from the point-of-view of a child.
As for reading, fiction is my passion. I'll read almost any genre: thrillers, literary, magic realism, social realism, detective, surrealist, experimental, satire, comic, historical, coming-of-age, supernatural, horror, etc etc etc
