While I was in graduate school I began writing poetry, some of which was published in small literary magazines. The first sentence in Realities – My children are gambling – was the first line of a poem that grew into a novel. It was gratifying to see Realities published, not only in the United States but in England and Sweden, where it was a selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club.
I presently have three novels as ebooks and paperbacks: Realities, The Writers’ Conference, and The Last Season, The Story of a Marriage. My novel, The Writers’ Conference, grew out of an experience I had at a conference over thirty years ago. The first draft was too long. I put the manuscript away, then took it out every five years and worked on it again until I felt it was finally right.
