Hwæt! I generally read fantasy, both urban and epic, but also enjoy sci fi, mystery, and other genres as well. I would say some of my most formative experiences were reading Beowulf, listening to my father read The Hobbit, and reading Hero of a Thousand Faces. On an academic level, I'm interested in cultural and ethnic identity in medieval Europe, particularly in the Viking diaspora and medieval Scotland. My writing tends to parlay a combination of my interests and influences. I strive to strike a balance between Tolkien's sweeping narratives and Butcher's wry wit and rich humanity. I desire to explore themes of identity, death and dying, fate, and purpose, while still having fun within a fantastical realm. I genuinely believe fantasy is an ideal medium for exploring complex themes and delivering an entertaining experience at the same time.
