As a small publisher, I can only afford to take on a few, but we've opened a new digital imprint so more can have a crack.
As a reader, I can get sucked into a soup can label if it's written in an interesting way. That being said, I adore a quick pace, lots of action and a smart plot. Oh, and I'm a girl so I do like a bit of romance though love triangles send me into an eye rolling spiral. Not a fan, yet I endure.
As a writer, I gravitate toward stories that dance along or dive into the paranormal or supernatural. The concept of going outside what is acceptable and normal is unavoidable for me. My work is PG13 usually since I don't see romance scenes as "how to" manuals (don't get me wrong, sure they're fun to read but waay too personal to write). Thus far I've played with first person, male perspective and female perspective. Mostly my characters are in depth and evolve although lots usually happens along the way. And as our dear Doctor Who taught us about good sci fi.... run.
