Currently, I'm working on a novel involving my fictional series character, Richard, earl of Armitage. He's the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire in the last quarter of the 18th century. He has adventures in politics, smuggling, abolition, and revolution. He also has to work with many people from differing backgrounds, and he comes plagued with a particularly contentious family. He also plays cricket.
I have a short story being considered by a magazine, and I'm plotting at least one entry for the Black Orchid Society's annual contest. One story will involve Loyalists from the thirteen colonies. These stories all involve Armitage.
I read both contemporary and historical novels and short stories. I keep up with the historical profession by reading current works of scholarship in my field, and I currently belong to the American Historical Association and the North American Conference on British Studies. I will be joining the MWA in the near future.
