I have written media tie-in short stories, articles, web content, and novels for Star Trek, Doctor Who, and several games. I also write original science fiction, mystery, romance, historical, and fantasy stories.
My work ethic and approach to the job of being a storyteller is built on a foundation of Robert Heinlein, Lawrence Block, Allen Drury, and Frederick S. Faust; writers who roll up their sleeves and build stories. I strive to learn from everything I read, so influences on my craft and voice as a writer are legion: Morrison, Le Guin, MacDonald, Burke, Butler, Ellison, Bradbury, Cherryh, Hillerman, Stout, -- anyone with the guile and craft to tell a good story well.
I am a professional writer, rather than a storyteller with dreams, because Kristine Kathryn Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith took the time to beat me sensible.
I would not be a writer at all without the support of my first reader, best friend, and partner in life these past 30 years, my wife Valerie.
