While I have read YA books I enjoyed, I'm really not the biggest reader of them. Yet, both of the book series I've been working on would fall under YA. I was always a big reader, but in college, I became more of a writer and less a reader. Now that I'm done with school, I hope to balance that. When it comes to short stories, I strictly write general fiction, but both of my books are more on the supernatural side, one more paranormal and the other slightly more sci-fi. My main characters are typically mash-ups of people I've known over the years (enough that the indivivuals wouldn't be able to tell who they were), and I can honestly say that the heroine of my first book only shares two things with me: Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. I felt that giving her my own disorders would bring me closer to her character and also give some awareness to girls having either disorder, which are typically thought of as "boy disorders."
