For most of my life I have been reading fantasy, ever since I started with Sabriel. I was drawn into how fantasy had worlds that seemed to bend the rules, but at the same time still held touches of reality.
As a gay African-American, my characters, although flawed, were my role models in were my role models in an often confusing world. The characters will join the dreams of the thirteen worlds through dealing with immense external and internal conflicts, including not only magical issues but also those of gender, race, and sexuality.
