I studied design and music at the University of North Texas. I began every design project with writing. That's just how my brain found its way in. Soon, my professors introduced me to a little something called the "target market profile, " essential in market research. Some call it a "persona." Whatever. I was in love. Here's a chance to create a person as living-and-breathing relatable as you could make them. If your persona wouldn't give two hoots about your campaign, you had it wrong. I made a sport of creating the most realistic person to talk to. That's how I want advertising to think of me, so it only seemed natural.
That's what turned me into a fiction writer.
By day, I'm a Senior Copywriter at Critical Mass, a digital marketing firm in Chicago. I can't get enough of big-idea concepting and problem-solving, and they actually pay me to do it. In my decade of marketing experience, I've written copy for Mastercard, Heineken, Pampers, United Airlines, and Google.
