I enjoy authors like Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiassen, Nelson DeMille, James Swanson, Thomas Harris, Patricia Cornwell, Ken Follett, and most of All Adam Hall. No frills writing. Crisp, to the point, and visual. When I write, my mind sees the scene and I merely try to transfer what I see to the page. More often than not, it's easy. Other times, very difficult and frustrating. That's when I get up and leave the room. If I can find a paragraph to describe a page, I use it. If I can find a sentence to describe a paragraph, I use it. And if I can find a single word to encompas a sentence, I use it. I suppose my style is based on what the great architect Mies Van der Rohe called his buildings: "skin and bones." He is often associated with the aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details". All of which sums up my writing style.
