I've learned one thing in the past year: I've certainly written a lot more than I've read. When I was a kid, I read all the time. Same thing as an adult. Then I decided I wanted to become a writer. Now my extra time is devoted to writing and blogging...with reading regrettably taking a backseat.
I write science fiction and fantasy; geek stuff. I'm a geek and my writing reflects that. I want humor, I want excitement, I want escapism. It's very difficult for me to work on something I wouldn't actually read myself. If that means people look down on my work because I don't write nine pages of thesaurus-fueled hokum about the creepy wrought-iron fence outside the creepy, Victorian-style home, then so be it. I'll live.
My publication history includes a few short stories in various outlets. I'm currently revising a couple of my novels and (of course) "seeking representation."
